Project Highlight: Lowell Painted Lady

We've just completed an exciting exterior painting project for our wonderful clients, Julie and Cliff, in Lowell, Michigan. This project was especially delightful as we had the opportunity to bring to life a classic beauty - a "Painted Lady".

For those who may not know, a "Painted Lady" refers to Victorian and Edwardian homes and buildings painted in three or more colors to accentuate their architectural details. These striking houses are often reminiscent of elegant and colorful period pieces.

For this project, we used a stunning combination of Sherwin-Williams paints:

  • SW 6473 - Surf Green: This vibrant shade was used on the siding, storm windows, access doors, wooden windows, overhang, and soffit. It brings a refreshing, lively energy to the exterior while also enhancing the home's unique details.

  • SW 6285 - Grape Harvest: This luxurious, deep shade of purple added depth and contrast to the siding trim, window trim, door trim, fascia boards, and the brick by the front porch as well as the front porch railings. The Grape Harvest shade added a rich, regal character that beautifully complemented the Surf Green.

  • SW 9149 - Inky Blue: We utilized this dramatic shade as an accent color, applied to the shake siding, trim board above the foundation, and the thin trim on the front porch. The deep, yet vibrant blue added a touch of modern sophistication to the heritage charm of the Painted Lady.

  • SW 2865 - Classic Yellow: Used on the sunburst siding, this sunny, optimistic color added a burst of cheerfulness, bringing a balance of lightness to the color palette.

The combination of these colors gave the house an elegant and whimsical look, perfectly capturing the spirit of a true "Painted Lady". The result was an intricate blend of Surf Green, Grape Harvest, Inky Blue, and Classic Yellow that harmoniously highlighted the architecture of the house.

We had a fantastic time working on this project, and we'd like to express our sincere appreciation to Julie and Cliff for entrusting us with their beloved home. A big shout-out to Alana for her incredible help with the color selection that truly brought out the essence of this iconic style.

Cliff, your blog post about our work warmed our hearts, and we're thrilled that you are as happy with the outcome as we are.
