How We Started
Two brothers, a ladder, and a work ethic.
In 1992, two brothers grabbed a ladder and started painting homes around Grand Rapids. Nate and Jon Hillis built the company on three ideas: do quality work, treat people right, and never compromise on prep.
Three decades later, we run multiple crews across Kent, Ottawa, Allegan, and Muskegon counties. We've painted thousands of homes and commercial buildings, earned 870+ five-star reviews, and been recognized as one of the most trusted painting companies in West Michigan.
What hasn't changed is how we work. We still survey every property ourselves. We still don't get paid until you're happy. And we still treat every job like our reputation depends on it, because it does.

Co-founder
Jon leads field operations and crew training. With over 30 years of painting experience, he sets the standard for prep quality and finish work that the entire team follows.
Harrison Hillis
Operations
Nate's son Harrison manages operations and project coordination. He's the point of contact for scheduling and project updates.

Project Manager
As one of the sons at Hillis Brothers Painting, I’ve spent the past 16 years learning the painting business from the ground up. Today, I’m proud to serve as a Project Manager and Estimator, helping our customers bring their projects to life. I genuinely love what I do, and as a husband, dad, and member of the Hillis Brothers family, I’m grateful to be part of carrying on our family’s tradition of quality and service in West Michigan.
Jesse Hillis
Sales Manager
Jesse grew up in the family business, handing out flyers as a kid before leading crews through high school and college. He’s also a graduate of Aquinas College, where he played basketball. Now he handles sales for Hillis Brothers, walking homeowners through their estimate and staying involved as their job comes together — coordinating the crew and making sure the finished work matches what was promised. Same family, same standard, over 30 years running.

We handle minor, non-structural board repair as part of the project. We don't replace handrails or structural components, and we don't subcontract.
Workmanship warranty.
3-year workmanship warranty on interior, exterior, and cabinet projects. Deck staining carries a 2-year warranty on the finish.

Every painter on our team lives and works in West Michigan. No traveling contractors.
